VINH LONG |
| |
|
|
| |
| Ringed by water and besieged by boats and tumbledown stilthouses,
the island that forms the heart of VINH LONG has the feel of a medieval
fortress. Waterfront hotels, restaurants and cafés conjure up a riviera
atmosphere far quainter and more genuine than My Tho's, from where you
can watch life on the Co Chien River roll by. There's not much else to
see in town, aside from a few war relics and a handful of colonial
buildings, but the chief attraction is the trip to An Binh Island. Cuu
Long Tourist at the top of 1 Thang 5 can also arrange leisurely, though
pricey, boat trips on the Co Chien River; the boat-owners themselves
charge less and can be contacted on the waterfront; theoretically,
they're not supposed to take tourists, but their boats usually set off
from the back of the market on 1 Thang 5. |
