SA PA |

| Forty kilometres from Lao Cai, the small market town of SA PA
perches dramatically on the western edge of a high plateau and enjoys a
refreshing climate (bring warm clothes) set in magnificent scenery, with
plenty of walks out to minority villages of Hmong, Dao and Giay peoples.
Sa Pa itself is ethnically Vietnamese, but the weekend market, which
runs from noon on Saturday to noon on Sunday, draws in minority
villagers from all around and has become a major tourist attraction, not
least for the chance to see minority women clad in their colourful
finery (always ask permission before taking photographs); in peak season,
however, tourists can outnumber minorities. |
