| The area around QUANG NGAI , 130km south of Da Nang, had a long
tradition of resistance against the French, which found further focus
during American involvement. In response, this region suffered some of
the most extensive bombing meted out during the war: by 1967, seventy
percent of villages in the town's surrounding area had been destroyed. A
year later, the Americans turned their sights on Son My Village, site of
the infamous My Lai massacre , which is now remembered in a moving
memorial garden and museum. |
